In parallel with the ongoing Ranaviru commemorative month, the War Hero commemoration ceremony in the Northern Province, took place at the Puthukkudiyiruppu War Hero Monument on Monday (12) with the participation of a large gathering of next of kin of fallen War Heroes and war-affected Mullaittivu civilians.
Major General (Retd) G.A Chandrasiri, Governor for Northern Province attended the event as the Chief Guest who also gave away gift parcels among school students and civilians who were present at the occasion. It had been organized by Major General Jagath Dias, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT).
Mrs Yogeshwari, Pathkunarasa, Mayoress for Jaffna, District Secretaries for Jaffna, Mullaittivu and Vavuniya, Civil Administrative Officers, Mr U.K Dissanayake, Deputy Inspector General of the Police, Kilinochchi, senior Army officers, senior Police officers, together with students and civilians of the area, took part in the event.
Floral wreath-laying, oil lamp lighting, one-minute silence, distribution of gift parcels among War Hero families and war victims in Puthukkudiyiruppu area dominated the event. Several groups of school children presented entertaining dancing features during the event.
