Launching the 20th phase of the Interest Free Housing Loan scheme of the Ministry of Defence Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, Chairperson, Ministry of Defence (MoD) Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU), distributed interest free loans among 50 war heroes at a ceremony, held at the MoD main auditorium this morning (9 May).
Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa together with chairpersons of Seva Vanitha Units of respective services handed the cheques to War Heroes and their family members on the occasion.
The loan of Rs 300000.00 each which will be given under three stages was thus distributed among 50 war heroes/family members including 29 Army, 13 Navy and 08 Air Force personnel.
Addressing the gathering Vice Chairperson of the SVU of the MoD Mrs. Ratnayake said that, this is one of the noble projects that has been initiated to uplift the living standards of War Heroes and their families by the SVU under the patronage of His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the direct supervision of Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
This visionary project was initiated with a view to providing them with an opportunity to live with pride within their societies, she added. She told that the National Defence Fund of the Ministry had made available funds for this award of loans today.
Members of MoD SVU, Directors of Welfare Units of the Armed Services and family members of War Heroes were also present at the event.
