'Pirith' Chanting Invokes Blessings on New Hospital


A Pirith chanting ceremony to invoke blessings on the inauguration of the new Army Hospital at Narahenpita got underway Monday (5) evening, just a couple of hours after its ceremonial opening by HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit, accompanied by Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General Army Health Services and a host of senior officers were present there to listen to Pirith chanting at the new main building of the Army Hospital.

In conformity with traditions, Lieutenant General Ratnayake offered the tray of betel to the Maha Sangha and invited them to begin chanting for invocation of blessings on the new project.

A large ensemble of senior officers, spouses, officers and other rankers attended the event. Ven Uduwe Dhammaloka Thero delivered the formal anusasana and conducted religious observances prior to the beginning of the chanting.
