Annual 'Jaya Pirith' Chanting Reverberates BMICH Premises, Invoking Blessings on the Nation

Invoking blessings on the country, President, Government and all, a record four-digit number of buddhist monks who assembled at the BMICH premises Saturday (3) evening chanted 'Jaya Pirith' and appealed celestial powers to help the country's forward march, dispelling all challenges and setbacks posed to the Nation.
 
The  annual  chanting ceremony, organized by Ministry of Defence and Urban Development followed offer of Heel Daana to members of the Maha Sangha Sunday (4) morning. President Mahinda Rajapaksa, accompanied by a host of Ministers, State officials, including Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development.

This mammoth annual event, 'Pinkama' saw its birth as a concept of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the year 2008 as humanitarian operations against terrorism, were entering a decisive phase. President Mahinda Rajapaksa graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Ministry of Defence and Urban Development.

The special ‘Jaya Piritha’, a Buddhist canon of chanting is also conducted to invoke blessings on all members of the armed forces and the Police.

More than 4000 Buddhist monks, including Ven Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayaka Thero, Chief Sangha Nayaka of Colombo and Chilaw divisions took part in the chanting that went on till Sunday morning.   

Mr Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development carried the relic casket for placement in the Pirith Mandapaya before commencement of the chanting.

A large gathering of Ministers, Governors, Deputy Ministers, Chief of Defence Staff, Army, Navy and Air Force Commanders, Spouses, Inspector General of the Police and devotees took part in the meritorious event.
