Army Troops Give Away New Home to War Affected Family &;amp; Kilinochchi Commander Reviews Progress of Other Houses Under Construction

War affected Kilinochchi-based Mrs Mahendran Rasalechchami and her daughter had the privilege of receiving an Army-built brand new house as a New Year gift, following initiatives of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN).

The personal intervention of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, SFHQ-KLN encouraged Mr S.K Nathan, an associate of the Kilinochchi Commander to donate Rs 3.5 million towards construction of this new house when their plight was brought to the notice of the philanthropist.

Army troops on the directions of the Kilinochchi Commander completed the construction of the new house within a few months and ensured its symbolic opening on the Sinhala and Tamil New Year day (April 14) at the auspicious minute of resumption of work and eating milk rice.

Mrs Mahendran Rasalechchami, together with her daughter received the keys at the auspicious minute and warmed the new house in accordance with Tamil traditions.

Meanwhile, Major General Ranasinghe on Wednesday (16) inspected the new house construction site for another Tamil mother of two children.

After the SFHQ-KLN learnt about the plight of Mrs Jayawadani who has two children but remains without a shelter after displacement during the war, steps were taken by the SFHQ-KLN and 57 Division Headquarters to find a suitable location for construction of a house through the Divisional Secretariat.

The cornerstone for the construction was laid after the Army found raw materials needed for the house on February 24, 2014. On Wednesday (16), Major General Ranasinghe inspected the construction site and instructed the Army Engineers, engaged in the construction to expedite the completion.

In the meantime, as part of the New Year tradition, the Kilinochchi Commander on Wednesday (16) visited the Army base hospital at Kilinochchi and gave away gift parcels to the inmates on account of the New Year.
