Visiting Pakistan's Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Pays Courtesy Calls on President &;amp; Secretary Defence


General Rashad Mahmood, NI (M), Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), Pakistan currently in Sri Lanka on a five-day goodwill visit, Tuesday (8) afternoon paid courtesy calls separately on HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees and Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development at Ministry of Defence.

This is General Mahmood’s first overseas visit after taking over as CJCSC in November 2013 as the 16th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. He is accompanied by his spouse, Mrs Shumaila Rashad and a few senior officers from Pakistan.

During his brief interaction with President Mahinda Rajapaksa, General Mahmood extended greetings from Pakistan and recalled bonds of goodwill and mutual cooperation as well as the broader platform of understanding that has been prevailing between both nations for myriad years.

Towards the end of the cordial meeting, the visiting military chief presented a symbolic memento to the President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.

High Commissioner for Pakistan Maj. Gen. (R) Qasim Qureshi, General Jagath Jayasuriya, Chief of Defence Staff, a few senior officers and officials from the Presidential Secretariat were present at the occasion.

Meanwhile, the visiting General Rashad Mahmood paid a courtesy call on Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development at his office at Ministry of Defence Tuesday (8) afternoon.

Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa reminisced invaluable support, extended by Pakistan towards the successful completion of the humanitarian operations and underlined the importance of maintenance of regional cooperation in tackling threats and other issues.

Before his exit, General Mahmood symbolized his visit to the Ministry of Defence by presenting a souvenir to Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa as a token of memory.
