On the directives of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ - J) is to shortly release another 350 acres of land that was hitherto used by the Palaly Army Camp.
On Friday (8), a large group of civilians, awaiting to return to their lands in the Thondamanaru West area arrived at the Palaly Camp area to receive a first glimpse of their property.
Accordingly, the extent of the Army camp and the cantonment would be further reduced in area in order to facilitate resettlement of those people, most of who are from fisher folk families.
In the company of Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, SFHQ - J, those wishing to return to the area had a closer a look at their former properties on Friday (8).
Once legal formalities are over, this land area is to be vested in the hands of those civilians who make their living by fishing in the adjacent seas.
