Army Coordinated Wanni English Language Programme Bears Fruits


An English Proficiency Competition, aimed at raising English Language standards among Wanni students awarded more than Rs 90,000/= worth gifts to students who excelled in English Recitation, Essay Writing, Elocution, Singing, Eloquence, Drama and a few other spheres during a ceremony at Tharanikulam Ganesh Vidyalaya, Vavuniya on Sunday (10).

The project, implemented on the directions given by Major General Boniface Perera, Security Force Commander, Wanni on the instructions of the Presidential Task Force for promotion of English standards among Wanni students, saw more than 450 children in the Vavuniya South Educational Zone participate in the after-school English Learning Programmes in four schools, thanks to the joint patronage, offered by Colombo Rotary Club and Mr Chutta Ratnasingham of US-based Namaste organization.

All the students who followed the Course for several months were made to sit an examination at the end, organized by the Vavuniya South Educational Zone under above categories. Of them, the best 77 students who excelled well were given gift parcels during this ceremony.

Major General Boniface Perera as the Chief Guest on the occasion awarded gift parcels to the best students, thanks to the sponsorship offered by the donors.
