Re-kindling hopes for a better future and spirits of reconciliation and harmony, the Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna conducted a ‘Thai Pongal Day’ Celebration at Elephant Pass on Monday (14), together with a huge gathering of Tamil civilians.
Mr. Namal Rajapaksa, Hon Member of Parliament (MP) and Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army along with Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) took part in the arrangements as distinguished guests.
Both Mr. Rajapaksa (MP) and Commander of the Army were received according to Hindu tradition upon arriving there, amidst rites and rituals.
The event, coloured by a series of entertaining features with a vast array of performing artists in the North, saw the entire gathering was treated to sweet meets, milk rice and traditional food varieties on account of ‘Thai Pongal’.
Security Forces Headquarters – Jaffna has organized the distribution of serve gift parcels too to mark the occasion.
