Resident patients at Military Hospital Colombo received gift parcels from the Commander of the Army on Friday (4) on account of the dawn of the New Year - 2013.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, together with a few senior officers, including the Army Adjutant General Major General N.A Jagath C Dias, Medical Advisor Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director of Personnel Administration, Brigadier G.V Ravipriya, Director, Directorate of Army Medical Services, Brigadier K.P. Sumanapala, visited the wards at this Military Hospital where scores of soldiers injured in Wanni humanitarian operations, too are still under treatment. All the inmates received New Year gift parcels from the visiting Army Chief.
Lieutenant General Jayasuriya, showing fatherly concern towards those inmates, some of who are expected to shortly join one of the wellness resorts for the rest of their lives, shared a couple of views with them and inquired into their requirements during the visit. He spent more than two hours in hospital wards speaking to the inmates and medical authorities.
In response to some of the queries raised by the inmates, the Commander on the spot provided solutions, referring unresolved issues to the senior officers, accompanying him.
The customary visit of the Commander of the Army to the Military Hospital has remained a routine formality as part of the Army Headquarters’ New Year programmes.
