One more War Hero, Lance Corporal L.D Pushpakumara of 11 Gemunu Watch (11 GW), who turned totally disable while fighting against terrorism in Mullaittivu area received the gift of a new house, sponsored by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) at Army Headquarters.
Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB during a recent visit to the Mihindu Seth Medura at Attidiya was approached by this War Hero seeking her financial help to complete the partly-built house in the land, belonging to him at No 34, Bandaranayake Mawatha, Badalgama, Divulapitiya.
The SVAB took prompt action and mustered labour and construction support of fellow-Gemunu Watch soldiers for the project under the supervision of Mrs Ashoka Muhandiram and Mrs Chintha Udumalagala, Chairperson, GW Seva Vanitha Unit.
The new house thus completed by the SVAB at the cost of a few lakhs was ceremonially vested in the hands of the War Hero on Saturday (5) during a house-warming ceremony, where Mrs Jayasuriya was the Chief Guest.
The daughter of the disable War Hero, currently receiving medical treatment at Ragama Ranaviru Sevana, together with Mrs Chintha Udumalagala welcomed the Chief Guest on arrival at the premises.
Senior SVAB members, chairpersons of GW Seva Vanitha Units, senior Army officers, other ranks, friends and neighbours of the recipient took part in the ceremony.
