Newly recruited 102 Tamil woman soldiers from Kilinochchi, now enlisted to the 6 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) Regiment, received their maiden salary during a special ceremony at the Security Forces Headquarters – Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) on Sunday (23).

The arrangement, made by the 6 (V) SLAWC and its Commanding Officer, highlighted artistic skills and other talents of those new Kilinochchi recruits in the form of a variety entertainment before their first salary, amounting to about Rs 35,000/=, was received with their bank books in the presence of their parents or guardians at the occasion.

Organized as a token of their goodwill and gratitude, these new woman soldiers thanked the Army for provision of employment to them, irrespective of unfounded allegations and vicious campaigns of interested parties.

Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-KLN and General Officer Commanding 57 Division distributed their salaries during the ceremony.

A large gathering of parents and custodians witnessed the event. General Officers Commanding 65 and 66 Divisions and several senior officers were associated with the day’s event.
