Troops serving the Task Force - 3 at Akkaraipattu recently launched a X’mas programme for the benefit of Christian civilians of low-income groups, living in Aligambay village in the Alaiadiwembu Divisional Secretariat.
Commander, Task Force - 3 on the directions of the Security Forces Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) organized the distribution of gift packets among children and civilians, worth over Rs 4.5 lakhs on account of X’mas.
Pastor delivered a speech on the occasion underlining the importance of X’mas and distribution of gift parcels among poor people as organized by the Army.
Head of the ‘Connect for Life’ organization, Pastor Rev. K.W.R Robert Silva has sponsored the purchase of those gifts through the Army in the area at a cost of Rs 4.5 lakhs.
X’mas Carols, different activities for promotion of leadership qualities and self-confidence among children and young people in the area, etc, added colour to the event of the day.

Joseph Mary, Pastor in charge of Aligambay diocese, Brigadier S.H.F.P Perera, Commander, Task Force - 3, Colonel P.J.P Gamage, 631 Brigade Commander, Lieutenant Colonel T.M.S Tennakoon, Civil Affairs Coordinator, Task Force - 3, Administrative Officer Alaiadiwembu Divisional Secretariat, Mr K. Kulasekaram and a group of invitees attended the occasion.
Meanwhile, to coincide with the spirits of X’mas season, Security Forces Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) donated a specially produced life-size crib to the Bishop’s House at Batticaloa as a token of goodwill.
Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E, together with several religious and civil leaders in the area handed over the crib to the Bishop’s House on December 23, 2012.
