Troops Provide 'Light' to Those Without Light

Giving a boost to continue her studies,  10 Sri Lanka National Guard (10 SLNG) troops serving at Ketpeli, Jaffna provided a solar-powered lamp to the student, Miss Gnanabalasinham Ramsika of Usan Ramanathan Vidyalaya who is sitting the GCE O/Level examination these days.

She lost her father during the war but was compelled to continue her studies amidst financial hardships, together with her mother and family members. Although she was preparing for the examination, continuing studies in the night was affected as the house was without electricity.

Major J.D.U.T. Kumara, Commanding Officer, 10 SLNG having learnt about her difficulty a few weeks ago pocketed out his own money to buy a solar powered lamp, enabling her to study for the examination.

At the same time, the 10 SLNG troops, encouraged by their commanding officer’s generous gesture took steps to buy ten more such lamps and distributed them among 10 more families free of charge.  Afterwards, the same troops distributed Solex electric torches among 250 families in Sambavalai, Kodikamam area on December 04 as support for their day-to-day work.

Mr. K. Saunders sponsored the purchase of Solex electric torches.
