Giving its most deserving respect and recognition, the Security Forces Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), in what could be termed as another reconciliatory measure, shared ‘Deepavali’ greetings with members of the public after inviting them to SFHQ-KLN premises.
Traditional ‘Deepavali’, the festival of lights of the Tamil culture is regarded as one of the most important religious festivals, commemorated every year on a grand scale.
On a suggestion, made by Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-KLN, more than 600 Tamil people of Kilinochchi District, covering remote areas of north western Pooneryn and a part of Mullaittivu, were thus invited to enjoy a ‘Deepavali’ lunch treat together with the Kilinochchi Commander and other officers.
Invitees attending the day’s event at the request of the SFHQ-KLN were accorded a warm welcome and conducted to the main hall to attend several traditional features of the ceremony.
Soon after HE the President’s ‘Deepavali’ message was read out to the invitees, the Kilinochchi Commander spoke a few words about the importance of the festival to the Tamil culture and called upon the public to meet him directly at any time, if they needed any assistance. An artistic fusion of both Sinhala and Tamil culture entertained the occasion which assumed festival atmosphere.
Soon after the cultural entertainment, all the attendees participated in the lunch treat, replete with many varieties of high standards. At the same time SFHQ-KLN gave away symbolic ‘Deepavali’ gifts to all the attendees before their departure.
