Soldiers serving the 542 Brigade in Mannar, mindful of the needs of the villagers of Nanattan and Murunkan, donated a collection of necessities recently (16) at a simple ceremony held at 542 Brigade Headquarters presided by the Commander, Security Forces (Wanni) Major General H. M. S. B. Perera.
A disabled villager, who was in need of a wheelchair but could not afford one, was donated with a wheelchair worth Rs. 50,000/= while another disabled mother received an artificial limb worth Rs. 20,000/= on the same occasion.
At the same ceremony, 12 needy families in two Tamil-dominated villages received gift parcels of household commodities each worth Rs.3,000/=.
The initiative, taken by 542 Brigade Commander, Brigadier A. A. Kodippili, also saw all 25 inmates of the Kaththamkulam orphanage receive a packet of books worth Rs.500/= each.
General Officer Commanding 54 Division, Brigadier M. A. M. Dias, Brigade Commander 542 Brigade, senior officers of the Army and a fair number of villagers were present at the occasion.
