A grand ceremony, comprised of a military parade and a special Hindu Pooja at Mulliyan Kovil, declared opened the newly-built clock tower and the main archway to the 55 Division Headquarters, serving Vettalakerni, Jaffna on Friday (5).
Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) attending the ceremony as the chief guest, was greeted with a Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour. Major General Hathurusinghe afterwards addressed 55 Division troops soon after opening of the new constructions and planting a tree sapling in the complex.
The same evening, troops were joined by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe for conduct of a special Pooja at Mulliyan Hindu Kovil in connection with the new opening.
Brigadier B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division who took the initiative in erecting these two units, together with all other invitees, threw a tea party for all those who were present on the occasion.
In addition to Major General Hathurusinghe, Brigade Commanders and Unit Commanders serving the 55 Division in the peninsula, together with representative other ranks attended the ceremonies on the day.
