22 Division Headquarters in Trincomalee marked Army Day (October 10) and 63rd Army Anniversary with a series of commemorative projects, including a tree planting campaign.
Early morning on Army Day, after the Commander’s message was read out, Brigadier Mahinda Weerasooriya, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division together with Colonel B.A.L Ratnayake, Staff Officer I, other officers and soldiers planted 250 tree saplings in the 22 Division Headquarters premises as the most important event of the day’s programme.
As the second segment of the agenda, 22 Division officers treated over 75 resident pregnant women at Trincomalee Hospital to a sumptuous lunch. Around the same time, troops provided lunch to elders at Trincomalee ‘Karuna Theresa’ Elders’ Home and orphaned children at Trincomalee ‘Rewatha’ Children’s Home.
Troops during their stay in these places exchanged views with authorities in order to learn more about their needs and requirements.
