Commander Makes a Surprise Visit to 'Abimansala-2' Under Construction

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army Thursday (10) morning made a surprise visit to the ‘Abimansala’ (wellness resort for totally dependent War Heroes) construction site at Wilpitawatta, Kamburupitiya, now fast receiving finishing touches.

Major General S.R Manawaduge, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - South (SFHQ-S) received the visiting Commander on arrival at the venue.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya, the architect of this noble concept of wellness resorts for the permanent care of dependent War Heroes of the Army, during his visit to the South-based construction site, reviewed the progress of ongoing segments in the project during a brief meeting with engineers, constructors and other relevant parties present there.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya had a close look at the state of the art sanitary facilities under construction in the complex and shared a couple of views with several engineers, technical officers, masons and plumbers working there. He also inspected the quality of several samples of floor and wall tiles that had been brought to the site by a few company representatives.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya after closely evaluating ground realities spoke to the soldiers at work and instructed them to speed up the project completion since it will serve as the permanent abode for those disable War Heroes of our times.

The new complex for lifetime rest and relaxation of 48 more Southern Province residing dependent War Heroes with much-needed physical and medical therapeutic needs, is the second of its kind. ‘Abimansala-1’ at Anuradhapura opened recently for the same purpose, is now fully functional with more than 50 dependent inmates.

The complex under construction consists of a Therapeutic Aid unit, 7 Villas, 5 Cottages, Ward Complex for 20 inmates, Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, Physiotherapy Unit, Medical Wing, Medical Laboratory, Library, Indoor Stadium, Entertainment Hall, Dining Hall, Auditorium, Kitchen, Herbal Treatment (Ayurveda) Centre and a few more other essential wings upon completion of the entire project.  

The new ‘Abimansala-2’ project, estimated to cost around Rs 240 million lies in a 10-acre serene natural environment with rich bio-diversity and waterways, bordering ‘Haliela Wewa’. Land for the project was donated by Land Reforms Commission in response to a request, extended by the Commander of the Army with the blessings of the Secretary Defence and Urban Development, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
