Panagoda Cantonment Vesak Lanterns Receive Cash Prizes

Panagoda Army Cantonment glittered with hundreds of colourful lanterns, following elaborate arrangements that had been made by the office of the Security Forces Headquarters, South (SFHQ-S), in connection with the thrice-blessed day (Vesak).

After conduct of the full-day Vesak programme in the Cantonment premises for thousands of devotees who had observed Sil (eight precepts), Major General S.R Manawaduge, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - South (SFHQ-S) ceremonially switched on the lights in decorative Vesak lanterns, crafted by soldiers of more than 15 Regiments and different Army training institutes.

A cash prize of Rs. 25,000/= was awarded to the most colourful and the creative Vesak lantern that had been produced by soldiers of Engineer Service Regiment after a panel of judges picked it. The 2nd place (Rs. 20,000/=) and the 3rd place (Rs. 15,000/=) in the Vesak lantern competition were won respectively by craftsmen of Sri Lanka Army Services Corps (SLASC) and Sri Lanka Army General Services Corps (SLAGSC).

All those prizes were delivered to the winners by Major General S.R Manawaduge who attended the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Eight Regiments, three physical training institutes and a few other Army institutes produced their exhibits to the Vesak lantern competition.
