The first New Year festival at Anuradhapura ‘Abimansala’ where some 50 permanently dependent War Heroes are housed for the rest of their lives, provided entertainment and fun, due to sponsorships, provided by TV Derana and Event Media Company Limited.
A host of popular actors and actresses as well as popular vocalists added entertainment, fun and amusement throughout the conduct of the New Year festival, comprised of wheelchair races, swimming events, pot cracking, pillow fighting, tug of war, balancing acts, traditional games, etc.
Brigadier P.U.S Withanage, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division attended the occasion as Chief Guest at the invitation of the Abimansala Commandant who facilitated the entire programme and made it a novel experience to the inmates.
A gathering of next of kin of the inmates, invited local residents and several Army officers witnessed the day’s event.
