Mannar Troops &;amp; Civilians Join Together to Mark Vesak

54 Division troops across Mannar on account of Vesak (Thrice Blessed Day) carried out a series of meritorious activities, giving prominence to Sil campaigns, exhibition of soldiers’ crafted Vesak lanterns, conduct of Dansel (free eating houses) and a number of other similar projects.

A large number of Mannar civilians of all major ethnicities enjoyed the meals (Dansel), prepared by troops of the 543 Brigade Headquarters. Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese in the area queued up together and took part in the arrangement.

Meanwhile, hundreds of members of Army troops serving all Brigades and Units in Mannar on Vesak Day (May 5) conducted a full-day ‘Sil’ observance campaign at 54 Division Headquarters under the auspices of Brigadier M.A.M Dias, General Officer Commanding, 54 Division.

In the meantime, hours before the dawn of Vesak day, hundreds of soldiers lined up at the Medical Centre at 54 Division Headquarters and donated blood on behalf of patients receiving treatment in Mannar hospital. Over 182 officers and other ranks gave away blood on the same occasion. A team of 15 medical officers and nursing staff assisted the project.
