The annual Sports Meet of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) managed Galle ‘Viru Kekulu’ pre-school, took place on Thursday (20) amidst a large gathering at the 2 Gemunu Watch grounds in the fort.
Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB as the Chief Guest, attended the day’s event, together with a group of SVAB senior members. The sequence of events started after the national flag, SVAB flag and the Viru Kekulu pre-school flag were raised by Mrs Jayasuriya, Mrs Rani Jayatilake and Mrs Ariyasinghe respectively. Recital of national anthem and a two-minute silence in honour of the memories of fallen War Heroes followed afterwards before the welcome speech.
Hurdle runs, comical events, group competitions, drill displays, running events, musical chairs, etc of those kids, organized by Mrs Ariyasinghe, senior SVAB member in charge of the pre-school at Galle and pre-school teachers, added fun and amusement to the day’s proceedings. Prize awarding to the winners and all other participants took place at the end of the sports meet, headed by Mrs Jayasuriya.
Mrs Jayasuriya upon arrival at the venue was warmly received by Mrs Ariyasinghe and members of the teaching staff, together with kids who conducted her to witness their skills.
Parents, Seva Vanitha Unit members and invitees, several senior Army officers witnessed the occasion.
