Troops of the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna barely 24 hours after use of Alfred Doraiappa Stadium in Jaffna for their ‘Searchlight Tattoo’ (March 23-25), commenced a mammoth cleaning and renovation programme in order to improve its structural outlook.
Soldiers of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineer Regiment (SLEME) re-plastered the temporary entrance gates that were prepared for the massive crowds and conduct of rehearsals and restored them to the original state. One more segment of the troops cleaned up the perimeter walls as well as major seating stands in the premises and painted the entire pavilion, giving a new appearance.
As a gesture of goodwill towards unstinted support, extended by Jaffna Municipal Council to the success of the ‘Searchlight Tattoo’, the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna, commanded by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe was to build a new wash room in the premises since it remained a long-felt need in the Stadium.
Troops considering the prevailing dry weather have been intensely engaged in watering the grass inside the premises with the intention of bringing it back to be identical to a ground stadium where cricket is played.
