4 SLAWC Troops Make School to Resurrect

4 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) woman soldiers serving Isinbessagala area under 211 Brigade Headquarters in the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) launching an awareness programme among villagers took steps to recommence studies at Isinbessagala Sri Sobhitha Kanishta Vidyalaya which was on the verge of closure with 5 students attending it.

Woman soldiers after highlighting the importance of uninterrupted conduct of the school, finally succeeded in absorbing as many as 71 new students from the area to the school early this year and allowed it to recommence classes from Grade 1-5.

With the intention of further promoting their participation in continued studies and motivating them, 4 (V) SLAWC troops obtained the support of Ven. Labugama Narada Thero at Sisoji Buddhist Vihara, Japan for distribution of essentials among those students.

A simple ceremony in the school premises saw those students each receive one pair of shoes, one school bag, one tool box, one water bottle, one dress and several other school accessories as gifts. The donation cost the sponsors Rs. 284,000/=.

In addition, the same philanthropist gave away several play items such as a see-saw, a metal swing, pyramids and sliding stairs for the use of those children in primary classes.

Ven. Labugama Narada Thero, together with the 211 Brigade Commander distributed those gift parcels to those children during a simple ceremony.

4 (V) SLAWC Commanding Officer and a section of parents and civilians in the area attended the occasion.
