In order to further promote sports skills among youngsters in Jaffna and strengthen Jaffna’s Civil-Military relations between the Army and the civilians recently organized a soft ball cricket tournament as part of 513 Brigade’s community-oriented projects in Uduvil area.
Twenty sports clubs in the Brigade area vied in the tournament and players of Sri Camachchi Sports Club won the trophy after close encounters.
Vaddu Stars SC and Kalavaturai SC respectively won the second and the third places in the finals held at Vaddu Hindu College ground.
Winners were awarded the trophy, a cash prize of Rs. 7500/= and a pack of sports items. Second and third runners-up also received trophies, cash prizes and packs of sports items while all the Sports Clubs that participated in the tournament were gifted with sports items.
Chankanai People’s Bank and Tokyo Cement Company assisted the Army to organize the tournament.
Brigadier Piyal Wickrmarathne, General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, Brigadier Pradeep Silva, 513 Brigade Commander, senior Army Officers, senior citizens and cricket fans in the area, witnessed the final match.
