INGO Offers 63 More Water Pumps Among Farmers in 61 Division Area

Alliance Development Trust, an International Non Governmental Organization, concerned about promotion of agricultural work and living standards in 61 Division area under Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W), recently donated 63 water pumps to 63 farming families living in Palampiddi, Periyamadu, Kirisuddan, Mullikulam and Tachchinamarathamadu areas.

Each water pump, worth Rs 35,000.00 cost the INGO about Rs 22 lakhs in total and the donation was coordinated by Brigadier A. Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division with the support of the 613 Brigade and Civil Affairs Officer in 61 Division. Donation of those water pumps will ease the farmer’s burden of buying one for himself since their economic conditions still remain to be much improved.

The ceremony for distribution of those water pumps took place on Wednesday (15) at Palampiddi Thachchanamarathamadu Government’s Tamil Mixed School with the participation of Mr A. Prashanthan, Wanni District Coordinator for Alliance Development Trust, Brigadier A. Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, Mr Sebathasan, Social Service Officer at Madhu Divisional Secretariat, 613 Brigade Commander, 61 Division Civil Coordinating Officer, Mr Almeda, Principal, Palampiddi Thachchanamarathamadu Government’s Tamil Mixed School, farming community, civilians, teachers and students.

On several previous occasions, the same INGO gave away such equipment to farmers in the 61 Division area as a stimulus to the agricultural work, carried out by poor farmers in the area.

To this date, the INGO has distributed more than 438 such water pumps among members of the farming community in the whole of Wanni area free of charge.
