Engineer Service Regiment Marks Its 62nd Anniversary

Engineer Service Regiment (ESR), one of the most hardworking and exemplary wings in the Army with its unblemished record of service to the nation, marked its 62nd anniversary recently with a series of commemorative events at its Headquarters, Army Cantonment, Panagoda.

Arrangements, headed by Major General E.M.M Ambanpola, Colonel Commandant of the Engineer Services Regiment, started off after paying homage to the War Memorial at Panagoda, preceded by an all-night Pirith chanting ceremony plus an alms-giving to members of the Maha Sangha.

A separate multi-religious ceremony on the sidelines of the first segment of the commemorative ceremony took place with the participation of all officers and soldiers observing different faiths.

A Guard Turnout, followed by a ceremonial parade on the day of the anniversary (January 10) saluted the Colonel Commandant ESR upon his arrival at the Headquarters for day’s programme in accordance with military traditions.

The latter part of the anniversary programme consisted of an all rank get-together, sports events, a musical evening, a band display, an all rank lunch and a lottery draw. Hundreds of grieving family members of fallen ESR War Heroes attended the events.

The ceremony also saw distribution of valuable gift parcels among family members of fallen ESR War Heroes and prizes and certificates to the winners of the inter-regiment sports competitions that were held prior to the anniversary day.

Evening arrangements of the day were set apart for fun and amusement among all those serving the ESR and family members of all fallen and still-serving officers and other ranks.
