Dependent War Heroes at 'Abimansala,' Wellness Resort at Anuradhapura were twice blessed when the President’s Secretary Mr Lalith Weeratunge, together with Mrs Weeratunge, visited it and donated a stock of books to it on Sunday (5) under Presidential Secretariat’s ‘Nena Guna Saviya’ project.
Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, the driving force behind the success of the ‘Abimansala’ project which has now spread its wings to the Southern Province and Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch, received the visiting distinguished guests to the state-of-the-art Wellness Resort.
Mr Lalith Weeratunge after the donation of the books said that it was the wish of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa to spread the knowledge to all sons and daughters of the country in an equal manner. ‘These War Heroes who sacrificed their legs and limbs for the sake of the motherland are no exception, and deserve our assistance at all times.’ Mr Weeratunge at the same venue said that the 'Abimansala' would serve an ideal resort for any visitor coming to Anuradhapura on rest and recreation.
Mrs Weeratunge during her interaction shared a couple of views with those inmates and made inquiries into their requirements, if any. Those distinguished visitors during the stay at Abimansala received a brief presentation of its roles and tasks where some 50 plus dependent War Heroes are housed for rehabilitation, rest and recreation during their life-span.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya expressed his gratitude to the thoughtfulness and concern, shown by Mr Weeratunge and Mrs Weeratunge towards those dependent War Heroes on behalf of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Donation of the books will certainly help improve their general knowledge on various subjects, the Commander said.
Donation of those books is part of a programme launched by the Presidential Secretariat covering as many as some 600 schools in the North Central Province on a directive given by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa in connection with the National Independence Day.
