Northern Students Taken On Picnic to the South

A total of seventy-eight students from schools in Varani, Jaffna, together with their teachers and parents, enjoyed the hospitality of southerners for three days when they recently went on a picnic, following arrangements made by 52 Division Headquarters under the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna.

Those children on arrival in Colombo visited the planetarium, museum, Vihara Mahadevi Park’s Sathutu Uyana, National Child Development Foundation, Independent Television Network, Milco Factory, Colombo Harbour, Bank of Ceylon towers, Zoo and a few more places of tourist attractions.

Children of Sri Jayawardanepura Balika Vidyalaya lent a warm welcome to them on the first day during a special ceremony before they all were gifted with exercise books, instrument boxes, footwear, etc at Angoda National Child Development Foundation when they visited its office for a musical entertainment.

The gesture of goodwill aimed at further promoting mutual understanding, reconciliation and cooperation between the North and the South, came in for praise of the authorities and all those who took part in the tour.

Brigadier W.A.V.A. Sudasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division saw those students off on the picnic on Wednesday (25).
