58 Division Marks Its 3rd Anniversary

 
Sri Lanka Army’s 58 Division Headquarters which boasts of a prestigious record of history, particularly at the height of successful completion of the Humanitarian Operations, marked its 3rd Anniversary recently with a few events, organized at the Headquarters.

Kilinochchi-based 58 Division was formally raised on 3rd January 2009 as a separate Division as the war was entering a decisive phase, though it was originally initiated on 30th July 2007 as troops of the Task Force - I.

Those troops covering areas like Mannar, Vedithalathivu, Pooneryn, Paranthan, Elephant Pass, North Kilinochchi, Vishwamadu, Puthukkudiyiruppu, Pudumattalan, Vellamullivaikkal, etc, outshone and performed an indelible and unparalleled role in the fight against terrorism as the Humanitarian Operations were moving and at their peak.

The 3rd anniversary ceremony kicked off after according a Guard Turnout plus a salute to the incumbent General Officer Commanding, Brigadier A.W.M.A.W.N Ranawana as a military tradition on January 10, 2012 at the 58 Division Headquarters premises.

An all rank luncheon afterwards as a social event with the participation of all senior officers, non-commissioned officers and other ranks brought the anniversary events to a close.

Veterans like Brigadier C.P. Gallage (31st Aug 2007 – 25th Oct 2007), Major General L.H.C Silva (1st Sept 2007 – 5th Aug 2009), Brigadier B.A Perera (5th Aug 2009 – 1st Aug 2011) and Major General K.J. Alwis (1st Aug 2011 – 5th Sept 2011) were among past Commanders who have served the Division to-date as General Officers Commanding of the 58 Division.
