68 Division troops in Puthukkuddiyiruppu area on the holy Christmas Day (December 25) itself offered special Christmas gifts to the kids and students in the area in a different manner.
In the newly resettled Sudanthipuram area that lies under the 683 Brigade Headquarters area, the troops on the instructions of senior officers, using their skills and technical know-how, built a well-equipped new pre-school building, a long-felt need in the area. 52 pre-school kids learning earlier in a small congested structure were among the happiest to enter the new school building after it was ceremonially opened by Brigadier K.P.A Jayasekara, General Officer Commanding, 68 Division. It was the Christmas gift offered to the kids who hail from very poor families. The new building was donated with several new accessories on the same occasion.
As the second segment of the Christmas day programme, 450 children in Sudanthipuram Government’s Mixed School and Kombavil Vigneshvara Vidyalaya were gifted with school books and educational accessories, footwear, bicycles, library books, etc during a separate ceremony. 50 teachers in both schools received new footwear on the same occasion, in addition to 5 push bicycles.
Four more water pumps and spraying machines that can be used for agricultural work in the area were also donated to civilians in the area, following initiatives taken by the 68 Division on the same occasion after recommendations were obtained from civil authorities.
Brigadier K.P.A Jayasekara, General Officer Commanding, 68 Division with the support of several senior officers in the Division harnessed the support for the project, after identifying most essential requirements proper.
Several members of the clergy, Puthukudiyiruppu Divisional Secretary, Sports Officer, Grama Seva officials, Principals, senior citizens and other invitees attended those ceremonies.
