Ahead of Saturday's (10) Passing out Parade (PoP) at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun where the Sri Lankan Army Chief were to be the Chief Guest, the visiting Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya and his spouse, Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), took time off this afternoon (9) to interact with a few other events and observe social service projects, managed by the Indian Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), the Sri Lankan counterpart, SVAB.
Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jayasuriya and Mrs Jayasuriya, in the company of several executive officials/ ladies in the AWWA, called at the Asha School for Differently Abled Children, exactly identical to the Narahenpita 'Senehasa' school project for differently able, mentally and physical retarded children of service families in Sri Lanka.
Impressed with AWWA roles, both Commander and Mrs Jayasuriya made inquiries into multiple projects, being spearheaded by the AWWA, designed to develop holistic approaches and well-being of Army wives' children and provide rehabilitation assistance to Indian war widows at social and psychological levels. Mrs Jayasuriya, showing her motherly warmth towards those children exchanged pleasantries with some of those inmates for some time and made their day happier as a guest to their place of residence. The Asha School also houses a section of disable children in the civil society.
Lieutenant General Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army on arrival at the Dehradun IMA premises, later on the day, was received by Lieutenant General Rajinder Singh Sujlana, Commandant, IMA who ushered his host afterwards to witness IMA's Physical Training sessions and equestrian displays at Tons View Polo Ground at the IMA.
Late in the evening, the IMA hosted its PoP Dinner Night with visiting Sri Lankan Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya in attendance as the Chief Guest, a practice unique and perhaps exclusive to the Indian Army since the PoP Dinner Nights elsewhere, including Sri Lanka are generally held on the day of the PoP itself.
