A long-felt need for soldiers based at Diyathalawa, SLMA premises was accomplished this evening where the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya declared open several new married quarters, considering the welfare project of the soldiers.
These quarters comprising ten housing units, were built on a concept of the Commander of the Army in order to provide necessary facilities to families of the soldiers working in various training establishments in the Army to live with their families. Lieutenant General Jayasuriya as the Commander of the Army has taken many initiatives to improve their living standards and the productivity of the soldiers at various levels.
Subsequently to the opening of married quarters, the Commander of the Army addressed a gathering of officers who are following a refresher course at SLMA Diyathalawa, prior to their course of study at Command and Staff College and other staff related courses. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya stressed that Sri Lanka Army was called the best Army in the world last year when they conquer rootless terrorist by war, but in the future the Army will have to be in par with professional armies in the world academically and therefore to pay better concentration on the academic site. The Commander of the Army was addressing a gathering of approximately 300 student officers. Commandant SLMA Brigadier J R Kulathunge and many instructor officers were present.
