Seva Vanitha Plays Leading Role in Ranaviru House Constructions

Multiple welfare projects, coupled with offers of humanitarian assistance to permanently disabled soldiers and other War Heroes are being pursued by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), under the able chairmanship of Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya.

Of those projects, construction of seventeen new and partly-built houses for War Heroes has figured prominently on the agenda. As of 15th October, six of those houses costing about Rs.1 million have already been handed over to Corporal U. J. Nandakumara of Gemunu Watch, Private B. M. Ranjith Bandara of Gajaba Regiment, Private B. M. S. Upul Kumara of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Private G. G Prabath Kumara of Gajaba Regiment, 2nd Lieutenant D. R. A. S. Mrs. Jayasuriya, patient enough to listen to the grievances of those War Heroes warranted both financial and material assistance from numerous donors and philanthropists for the above house construction project. Similarly, the SVAB with the intention of redressing grievances or other related issues of disabled War Heroes conducted mobile services at Regimental Centres in parallel with the recent 61st Army Day. Award of scholarships, land and building materials also took place around the same time during those meetings.

Six War Heroes received Rs. 1 million, each for construction of new houses from the SVAB while forty-two more War Heroes received building materials to complete there partly-built houses. Another thirty-four War Heroes received monetary assistance to construct bathrooms with facilities suited for disabled.

Giving ear to a grievance of the wife of fallen War Hero Corporal T. M. Ariyadasa of  Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya donated Rs.750,000/= to complete her partly-built house and also donated Rs.250,000/= each to Private P. R. Nishantha of Gajaba Regiment and Private N. D. K. Chandrarathne of Sri Lanka Light Infantry for the same purpose.

Many renowned philanthropists, at the invitation of the SVAB extended their assistance to War Heroes through the SVAB. A. Jayarathne and Rifleman Alagakkonara of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and Corporal K. P. S. Abeysinghe and Private K. A. W. S. Kulasuriya of Gajaba Regiment each by the SVAB.
