Cardiologists Treat Nattankandal Patients

The well-known cardiologist, Dr. Ruwan Ekanayake along with another team of medical officers and assistants from the Colombo National Hospital recently held a full-day medical clinic at Nattankandal Government Hospital in Mullaittivu district for the benefit of newly resettled people and villagers.

The clinic, organized by 61 Division troops with the blessings of Major General G D H K Gunaratne Commander, Security Forces, Wanni was coordinated by Brigadier A Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding 61 Division. An estimated crowd of 365 patients and 85 soldiers received consultations on various cardiovascular ailments during the clinic.

Dr. Ekanayake after examining some of those patients referred them to Kandy and Anuradhapura cardiology units for further treatment. 612 Brigade Commander Colonel K N S Kotuwegoda with the support of his troops ensured the smooth conduct of the clinic throughout the day.

Hundreds of those seeking consultations maintained that they had been denied such specialist care earlier due to LTTE terrorism and expressed their gratitude to the Army for organizing the clinic. Most of the patients were given away medicine by the medical team. Refreshments and snacks were provided to all those who attended the clinic.
