A SPECIAL get-together organized by Jaffna-based 51 Division for retired Non Commissioned Officers (NCOs) who served the Army when those Tamils were young, felicitated them during a special ceremony on 9th June 2010.
Those ex-servicemen from Jaffna received a warm welcome on arrival and were able to recall their cherished memories among fellow-workmates during the get-together, organized by Brigadier Sarath Wijesinghe on the directions of Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna.
Those ex-servicemen shared thoughts with serving officers and other ranks in Jaffna on the occasion and spoke high of the standards, being maintained in the Army. During the interaction, all the ex-servicemen were awarded a special memento to each ex-soldier in recognition of their service to the Army.
On behalf of those eight ex-servicemen, one ex-soldier spoke on the occasion and thanked the Army for organizing the felicitation and the recognition of their service while on retirement.
Towards the end of the day’s event, all of them sat with 51 Division Commander for a group photo. Each of them was to be given a copy of the photo as a token of memory.
