Young Officers After Completion of Military Studies Receive Their Diplomas From Commander

Newly commissioned 73 officers, who followed the Diploma in Military Studies course Nos 67, 69, 69 A and 71 at Diyatalawa Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) on Tuesday (30), accepted their diplomas from the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who graced the glittering occasion as the Chief Guest.

Those budding Officers who are now serving around the country at various formations had the rare chance of receiving their academic recognition of the Sabaragamuwa University from the Commander of the Army for the first time in their life during the ceremony.

Vice Chancellor of the Sabaragamuwa University together with SLMA Commandant were associated with the awarding ceremony. Deans of faculties, members of the academic staff, senior Army officers and a large gathering witnessed the day’s event.

This was the 4th Diploma Awarding Ceremony organized by the SLMA following an initiative taken by the Commander himself after he took over as the Commander of the Army. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya after an absence of several years wanted this Diploma Awarding Ceremony be recommenced after the year 2009.

During his brief speech to the recipients, the Commander underlined the importance of continuation of the military studies in order to overcome future challenges as fully pledged military officers.

He further wanted all the officers to work in achieving that target.

Diploma recipients soon after the ceremony posed for a group photo with the Commander of the Army and shared refreshments together.

Four of those Diplomas were awarded in absentia.
