Woman's Suicide Bid Foiled by Police and Army Officers

A SOLDIER and a policeman rescued a 28 year old woman who attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the sea at Bambalapitiya yesterday afternoon. 

The soldier and the policeman were on duty at a check point on the marine drive, when they saw the woman jumping into the sea, police media spokesman Prishantha Jayakody said.

The police constable who was on duty at a check post near the sea at Bambalapitiya had seen the woman jumping into the sea.

He and the soldier, who was on duty at the same check point, had jumped into the sea and rescued her.

The woman is a resident of Makewita, Jaela. She had been given first aid after being brought ashore and then sent to Kalubowila Hospital
