West Troops Still Closely in Touch with Flood Relief Work

Although adverse weather conditions in some areas are dwindling, 6 Sri Lanka Artillery and 2 (v) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops under command to 141 Brigade &144 Brigades of the 14 Division of the Security Forces - West are still continuing their relief roles as per instructions of the Commander of the Army.

6 Sri Lanka Artillery troops rescued 5 families stranded in Magalegoda, Kandaoluwawa GN divisions by using boats and brought them to safer places.

Similarly, troops of 2 (v) SLLI under 144 Brigade carried out relief missions using boats and ferried flood victims in Kotte, Kaduwela and Kolonnawa areas and distributed cooked dinner packs to some 3000 plus displaced civilians. They also gave away dry rations received from Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat. on the same occasion.

All of these community relief projects were closely monitored by the Commander, Security Forces - West, Major General Vikum Liyanage.

Meanwhile, Major General Sujeewa Senerath Yapa, General Officer Commanding, 14 Division, Brigadier Pradeep Gamage, Commander, 141 Brigade, Brigadier Lasantha Liyanawaduge, Commander 144 Brigade and Commanding officers of 8 SLLI & 2 (v) SLLI supervised developing flood threats by visiting most vulnerable areas.

In the meantime, troops of 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 2 (v) SLLI under command to141 & 144 Brigades of the 14 Division of the Security Forces - West carried out relief programmes for flood victims, affected by recent torrential rains.

8 SLLI troops accordingly distributed 500 biscuits packets and 1680 water bottles among the victimized community in the Dompe Divisional Secretariat area on Monday (7).

Meanwhile, troops of 2 (v) SLLI under the 144 Brigade distributed cooked breakfast and lunch packs among victimized families. Dry ration packets, provided by respective Divisional secretariats in Kaduwela and Kolonnawa areas were also distributed around the same occasion.

All of these activities were closely coordinated and monitored by the Commander, Security Forces - West, Major General Vikum Liyanage, together with Major General Sujeewa Senerath Yapa, General Officer Commanding 14 Division, Brigader Pradeep Gamage, Commander 141 Brigade, Brigadier Lasantha Liyanawaduge, Commander 144 Brigade and Commanding Officers of 8 SLLI & 2 (v) SLLI.
