On Monday (8), responsive to emergency need, troops of the 16 Gajaba Regiment (GR) under the 143 Brigade of the Security Forces-West rushed to Sirambiadiya in Puttalam area, and assisted to douse a bush fire that had erupted in a private land extent.
Following information and request of the residents in the area, a contingent of 20 Army personnel of 16 GR, along with SL Navy troops, hurried to the scene and commenced work to bring the quickly spreading fire under control with the support of some volunteers in the area.
The fires were totally brought under control within a few hours before more damage was caused to the rest of the land The fire has approximately caused damage to 15 acres of the entire land.
