West Troops Clear Blockage at Kelani River in Nawagamuwa Area

In quick response to an SOS appeal, made by the Colombo Disaster Management Centre, troops of the Security Force Headquarters West (SFHQ-West) on the directions and instructions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage and the West Commander, immediately attended to the clearance of a blockage of some uprooted bamboo trees that had affected the Kelani river water flow around the 'Podi Palama’ concrete pillars in Nawagamuwa, Mapitigama on Saturday (12).

Troops of the 24 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and the 2 (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry of the 144 Brigade under the 14 Division of the SFHQ - West contributed to the task and cleared the blockage with the support of Policemen in Nawagamuwa within hours.

Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, Security Forces-West accordingly instructed the General Officer Commanding, 14 Division Major General Rohan Jayamanna and the Commander 144 Brigade, Brigadier Vindana Kodithuwakku to attend to the emergency.
