Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army in a special statement made to the Media this evening (23) at about 8.30 pm announced that Welisara Navy Camp-based 30 sailors, including the COVID-19 positive one detected from Polonnaruwa while on leave on Wednesday (22) have now been confirmed infected after PCR tests, prompting the Commander of the Navy to isolate the entire camp premises with immediate effect.

It was revealed that the sailor confirmed positive after PCR tests in Welikanda, Polonnaruwa prior to his departure on leave from the Welisara Navy Camp had participated in the isolation and quarantining work carried out in Suduwella, Ja-Ela area where he largely dealt with drug addicts who were later found positive for COVID-19 and confined to Quarantine Centres.
