A brief ceremony to resettle 125 families, affected by the recent war in the general area of Awaranthulawa village, south of Vavuniya, got underway on Wednesday (30) under the phase-I of the project.
To begin with, 77 families received nearly ½ acre land block each, together with raw materials for construction of their houses during the occasion.
The brief ceremony, attended by Ven Siyambalagaswewa Wimalasara Thero, District Secretary for Vavuniya, Mr M.K.B Harishchandra, Divisional Secretary for Vavuniya South, Mr M.S Janaka, Additional Secretary for Presidential Task Force, Mr A.D.S Gunawardena, saw Major General P.U.S Vithanage, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division participating in it as the Chief Guest.
48 remaining families are to be resettled under the phase-2 of the project soon after basic formalities are done at respective administrative levels.
