Adding the pleasure of the dawn of Sinhala and Tamil New Year, the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the support of Officers and Other Ranks staged a New Year Festival inside the premises on Saturday (10).
Organized on the guidelines given by Major General Hemantha Bandara, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, the event, ‘Wanni Surya Mangallaya’ had a number of traditional and fun-making features, inclusive of selection of ‘Avurudu Kumaraya and Kumariya’ (New Year Prince and Princess) .
Competitions like pot cracking, cadjan weaving, grease pole climbing, bun-eating, coconut scraping, lime balancing, marathon races, cross country run, etc added colour and fun to the day’s event adhering to COVID-19 health guidelines.
Commencement of the event took place with flag-raising by Major General Hemantha Bandara. Marathon and bicycle races gave the start to the day’s event.
Throughout the day, Officers, Soldiers and Civil Staffers took part in a multitude of ‘Avurudu’ events, where they all enjoyed and had a good time as a whole.
Winners and achievers in all 35 events were awarded valuable gifts at the end of the day’s ceremony. Sports Shoes | Sneakers
