Wanni-Based 62 Woman Recruits Join Active Service

A new batch of sixty two woman recruits passed out after completing the four-month long basic training at the 4 Sri Lanka Army Women Corps (SLAWC) parade square, Medawachchiya on Tuesday (5) during a colourful ceremony.

Lieutenant Colonel E.H.V.S.R Silva graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Trophies were awarded to the recruits who achieved the best overall performances in respective skill categories and to other rank instructors who performed well during training sessions.

The occasion symbolized a significant moment by inspiring parents who had gathered since they felt that they have contributed to the Nation by offering their beloved daughters to the Sri Lanka Army.

Soon after the passing-out parade, those woman soldiers staged an impressive Gymnastic and PT demonstration.

A crowd of more than 1000 were present at the occasion including priests representing four main religions. Family members of those woman soldiers and well-wishers watched the proceedings.
