Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival of the Salawa camp, jointly organized by the Headquarters of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Logistics Command on 23 April had a number of traditional games and fun-making features.
Major General S.A.P.P Samarasinghe, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) and Major General R.M.J.A Ratnayake, Commander Logistics attended the festival as Chief Guests.
Bicycle races, cross country races, grease pole climbing, pillow fighting, bun-eating, pot cracking, tug of war, balancing, musical chairs, children’s items, selection of New Year Prince and Princess, etc dominated the day’s programme, together with musical entertainments.
Both Chief Guests at the end of the event gave away gifts to the winners in various games and features.
Meanwhile, Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) with the contribution of popular vocalists, conducted a Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival at SFHQ-MLT grounds throughout the day.
District Secretary for Mullaittivu, Mr N. Vethanayagam, Commander, SFHQ-MLT, Major General N.A.J.C Dias as Chief Guests, attended the event.
A large group of civilians, senior officers, other ranks and villagers took part in the festival.
