The remainder of Wednesday’s evening itinerary of the commenced afterwards as Bangladesh Army’s all Principal Staff Officers and the Military Secretary lined up at the Army Headquarters conference hall to extend their greetings to the visiting military dignitary from Sri Lanka. After the visiting Commander was introduced to the senior officers, a brief documentary, screened at the venue enlightened the visitors on the roles and tasks of the Bangladesh Army. Later on, the visiting delegation met senior officers at the Armed Forces Division and saw for themselves how their battle preparedness strategies work in the event of emergencies. Lieutenant General Abdul Wadud received the visiting Commander.
One of the significant phases of the Commander’s itinerary took place then as he paid a visit to the education village of Bangladesh Armed Forces, the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Mirpur where he was received by the DSCSC Commandant Major General Mohammad Shamim Chowdhury. The DSCSC as a well-acclaimed centre of excellence for study on subjects of military interest is affiliated to the Bangladesh University of Professionals.
The next segment of the day’s agenda was a trip down to the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), a hub of knowledge that provides technical training to both military and civil professionals in Bangladesh and foreign lands. Major General Hameed - Al - Hasan at the MIST welcome the visiting Sri Lanka's Army Chief. The day’s detailed programme ended with a banquet hosted by the Chief of Army Staff in honour of his visiting counterpart from Sri Lanka. A variety show, depicting cultural diversity added entertainment to the occasion.
Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya’s four-member entourage, comprised of his spouse, Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna and one more officer from the military secretariat, was warmly received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka on Tuesday (10).
Hours after their arrival in Dhaka, the delegation visited Bangabandhu Memorial Museum (Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Smriti Jadughar), the house of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, now turned into a national museum with a rare collection of personal effects and photographs of his lifetime.
General Mohammed Abdul Mubeen, Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff on 23 February 2011 at the invitation of his Sri Lanka’s counterpart arrived in Sri Lanka on a five-day tour, together with his spouse and three other senior Army officers. General Abdul Mubeen during his stay in Sri Lanka paid courtesy calls on the President, Prime Minister, Secretary Defence, Chief of Defence Services, Navy and Air Force Commanders.
