Visiting China's Armed Police Chief Assures More Training Slots for Officers

Lieutenant General Niu Zhizong, Chief of Staff of the Chinese People’s Armed Police, now in Sri Lanka on a three-day long official visit, together with five more senior Colonels, paid a courtesy call on Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army at the Army Headquarters this afternoon (22).

The six-member delegation, headed by Lieutenant General Niu Zhizong, is comprised of Senior Colonel Yu Wenfu, Senior Colonel Tang Dahuai, Senior Colonel Xiao Yangzhong, Senior Colonel Liu Zhimin and Senior Colonel Zhu Wenjun.

During the cordial meeting that ensued between the visiting Chinese military officer and the Commander of the Army at the Commander’s Office, the Chinese Chief of Armed Police, requested the Sri Lanka’s Commander to send maximum numbers of officers to China for training courses in anti terrorism, anti high jacking and disaster management spheres, in addition to training slots that have already been allocated in China for Sri Lankan service personnel.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake in response invited Chinese officers to join different training courses, conducted in Army training centers in Sri Lanka as many of those courses are on par with international standards. The high ranking Chinese officer responded in the affirmative and assured dispatch of Chinese officers for future training programmes.  

Towards the end of the interactive meeting, an exchange of mementoes took place after Lieutenant General Zhizong left his signature in the VIP book at the Commander’s Office.

After a while, the delegation watched a multi-media presentation, submitted by Brigadier Jayantha Gunaratne, Director Operations at Army Headquarters on the present day Army roles and tasks.

During their stay in Sri Lanka, the delegation is expected to call on Chief of Defence Staff and a few others and visit Commando Regiment Headquarters at Ganemulla.
