Cornerstones for construction of a function hall plus a War Memorial at Boyagane, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Headquarters took place recently during a brief ceremony.
Major General R.V Samarathunga, Colonel of the Regiment at the auspicious hour on Friday (27) laid the foundation stone during a brief ceremony. The new function hall with most modern technical facilities expects to accommodate 500 guests at a time and is to be made available for both officers and other ranks alike upon completion.
Meanwhile, Major General R.V Samarathunga, together with the architect, Mr Chandana Balasooriya, inaugurated the construction of a War Memorial (Ranaviru Smaraka) in the VIR Headquarters premises as a token of respect to the memory of fallen VIR War Heroes.
Major General Samarathunga, Mr Balasooriya, followed by a large gathering of senior VIR officers and other ranks laid the cornerstones for its construction on Friday (27) as the auspicious minute struck.
